VINYL IS TRUTH AT 45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE

Dear Friends, So me and Wax Thematique are gonna be putting out my 30th 7inch 45RPM single on Friday, January 6th, the first full moon of 2023. "Fireball" by The Lucky Mystery Now Orchestra b/w "These Eternal Verities" by the J.A.S.Ricci Quartette. Both tunes featuring me on the flute, and you can preorder it if you wanna receive it before it is released! I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has bought or collected vinyl with my name(s) on it over the years. I understand that the Funk 45 demands a lot from the music lover. One must have the capital to be able to buy it, or the time to be able to search for it in moldy dusty boxes. One must have the space to store and care for it. One must decipher the often cryptic symbols and titles on the label of the record, sometimes deliberately obfuscated on account of various legal barriers keeping certain musicians from playing on certain labels. Then you must have the leisure and ability to be able to interact with the object, as only 3.5 minutes will pass before you must flip it unless you have an automatic turntable or jukebox. For me, the 45 represents the shape of alternative music since when I was a kid, you could buy one from a traveling punk or ska band for $5 and thus help them to afford the gas to make it to their next basement show. The 45 is about family for me as my step-parents were tavern owners who left behind these smoky grocery bags of jukebox country and hillbilly 45s for me to dig through when nobody else knew what to do with them. When I first started digging for 45s in college, they represented finding something of value in a discarded waste-product. I detest the throw-away society and always thought that by saving, listening to, and sharing a 45 that was destined for the landfill I was paying respect to a forgotten artist whose music lay hidden in those dirty grooves. Finally, The Funk 45 has been an enduring symbol of Black Power for me as it was the means by which revolutionary Black musicians could deliver their message directly to the community, that was until multinational corporations consolidated studios, labels, and radio stations to maximize profit, effectively silencing many of these great American artists. These and so many other reasons are why I chose the 45RPM format as the medium of choice to showcase my art. And it is therefore my honor to have been supported by Nathan Womack Tramp Rec.ords, Philippe Rocafort, Funk Night Records, Jason Baldock , Golden Rules and so many others who have believed in my "cutting fringe" outsider folk funk art and who invested the energy and money into helping me realize my dreams of submitting these artifacts into the collective stream of recorded music in this, our 'diamond age' of Funk & Soul.
